A subtlety that I ran into trying to print a background image was that the Top Margin command requires that you explicitly define lines per page before setting the top margin. Logically this makes sense wince the top margin is specified in lines. However, it is not self-evident because printers default to 6 LPI.
Another point of confusion is that row zero is not at the very top of the page. You may want to see the chart on page 41 of the attached PCL description document to see what logical (printable) page sizes correlate with physical page sizes.
