Protected Checkboxes

Hi guys and gals,
When you protect a checkbox, should it change appearance like a textbox does to provide an indication that this is a protected field? When it doesn't change appearance, it just seems like it "isn't working" when the user clicks on it.
Note that I DO have an [INACTIVE] attribute set in my BRCONFIG.SYS so that protected fields have slighlty darker text in them (my users complained that they couldn't read protected fields). But this does not appear to be a factor as the checkbox doesn't change if I remove the [INACTIVE] attribute.
